Every eastern state searches Google for “Porno” more than any western state: an index of 86 against 61. Saxony-Anhalt scores 100; Berlin is last with 39. Searches for the big sites by name show the same gap (Pornhub 1.4× East, xHamster 1.7× East).

How we measured this
Google Trends, region Germany, resolution by state, web search for the term “Porno”, January–October 2026, pulled on 4 November 2026 (one term per request; a repeat pull gave identical values). Google scales each state from 0 to 100 relative to the state with the highest share of searches for the term (100 = most interest), so the index reflects how often a term is searched relative to all searches in a state, not the number of people. East and West are averages of the state values weighted by population on 31 December 2025 (our calculation).
- Searching for a site by name is not a measure of how much porn is watched; visits by typed address or bookmarks are invisible here.
- A search index measures interest, not behaviour: searching for something is not the same as doing it.
- Google samples its data, so values can shift by a few points between pulls.
- States below Google’s reporting threshold are shown without a value.
Notes & caveats
- Other terms, same period: “Pornhub”: East 91.7, West 66.9, Berlin 55 (1.4× East). “xHamster”: East 80.8, West 47.7, Berlin 30 (1.7× East). “OnlyFans”: East 82, West 69.5, Berlin 69 (1.2× East).
- Pornhub publishes no figures by German state. Its network’s 2014 release placed the five eastern states in the last five places for traffic per head, the opposite of today’s search pattern (BASIC thinking, 8 May 2014; not comparable in method).
- Big cities search less for porn by name on Google, perhaps because regular visitors type the address directly. Berlin and Hamburg are last.
