Some of the most telling differences are the ones no statistics office counts: which flag people buy, what they snack on, which brands survived 1990. Here we measure them ourselves.
Halle (Saale) has the cheapest döner of 36 cities in Lieferando’s 2025 index; the dearest is in Flensburg at €9.77, 1.7 times as much. Dresden (€8.01) is on the national average, so this is a Halle story more than an East/West one.
The West searches for “Currywurst” about a third more than the East (index 69 vs 52 in 2026). Saarland leads every year, followed by Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Frozen pizza: Saarland first, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern last
The West searches slightly more for “Tiefkühlpizza” (index 74 vs 60 in 2026). Saarland scores 100, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is last. Germans ate almost 400,000 tonnes of frozen pizza in 2025, but nobody publishes it by region.
